Derby Week
As we played both Sydney and Central Coast in the same week at home I thought I'd do the match reviews after them both. Plus every time I went to write a review of the Sydney game my heart got too heavy to go through with it. But after Friday's game against the Marinators I have found the will to continue...

Post 10 or more pictures of footballers/soccer players that you find attractive (order not needed).
State; Name/Club/Country that he (sic) plays for.
Tag 7 of your friends to take part.

Unfortunately (as with almost all sport - actually anything) football is a male dominated sport so my familiarity with female soccer players is limited. And I couldn't even get pictures of all the players in the Matildas (the only women's team I'm really familiar with). So I'll have to make up the rest with good looking male players and some that I found by searching random women's football teams.

Here we goCollapse )

Con Constantine Takes Me To The Movies
The Newcastle Jets are the only team in the A-League to have a sole owner. Multi-Millionaire (who would've thought Newcastle had one of them!!) Con Constantine is well...not respected...not revered...let's go with well known in sports circles in Newcastle. He has a lot of money he likes to through about. At one point he was trying to buy the Newcastle Knights (So the fact that the Jets seem to be his 'second choice' worries me).

Con is more than happy to boast about the $12 million or so he has personally put into the Jets, then in the same breath proclaim that the despite this the Jets are "the people of Newcastle's team". While Con has been generous with his spare change, his choice of upper management staff has been a sore point for many fans. I don't like my team having a sole owner. Ultimatley I would prefer a fan owned team like that one in England where the fans put together a consortium and bought their team when they were going under (trandals may be able to tell us which one that was). Either that, or I'd like to own them. So I've never been a great fan of Con. Until...

After our game against Perth (a crushing last second loss - Dutchy's first and only loss) there was a competition on the Jets website offering one of 20 double passes to the Jets' screening of Charlotte's Web. Finally! Con giving something back to the fans! I am not one to knock back something free. Particularly if all that free thing involved was me sending an email with my name, address and the answer to the question: "who scored the goal for the Jets against Perth?". I sent the email and thought nothing of it. The only thing I have ever won was a raffle of which I was drawing whilst very drunk MC'ing at a fund raising event. I still stand by my statement that it was entirely luck that I drew the one ticket that I had bought first.

In the mail on Monday was not the normal windowed envelopes from Centerlink, debt collectors or a utility company, but one with the Jets symbol in the top left-hand corner. Lo and behold inside was a double pass to the screening of Charlotte's Web. This almost makes up for the fact that I have had to pay an extra $5 for my tickets to the home games this season because apparently an unemployment concession card isn't good enough at Energy Australia Stadium. Hopefully Con is there so I can get in his ear about that.

Now begs the question: who do I take? Seeing the only other two members of this community either live in England or Sydney (and a Syd FC supporter to boot!) I can hardly offer the place to you (although I am offering it nonetheless). So do I take one of my friends that I secretly hold affection for? Or do I take my friend that I watch the Jets games with? Or do I take my flatmate that I have been occasionally sleeping with? Or do I take my friend's nephew who is a Jets fan? It seems Con's gift has brought more worry than jubilation. Thanks Con!

Why Dutchy Is Great
Gary "Dutchy" Van Egmond has obviously selected the "Say you are not too downhearted over the draw against the Knights on the weekend" option in the media section (I bet he has a copy of Football Manager 2007).

I just read this article: http://www.a-league.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&id=6201&pageid=11 where he praises the Knights and hopes they produce more upsets in the rest of the season. This would put his media rating at 20 in Football Manager for sure. It was an especially good tactic as we are not playing the Knights for the rest of the season so for us it'd be great if they won the rest of their rounds. Although judging from Okon's statements his profile would say "isn't convinced his manager should be praising other clubs".

Which reminds me: why the heell am I updating on LJ when I could be playing FM07?! Ciao!

But first, here are the goals from the game on Sunday. Check out the Griffiths goal and his reaction. Oh, and of course North's dodgy handball and his appeal of innocence

I Blame North
How can you go from beating Melbourne Victory one week to drawing with New Zealand the next? Seriously.

And I'm not going to put this behind a cut because you all have to see it. Here is the Rodriguez goal against Melbourne last week. This is a perfect example of the beautiful and creative way the Jets play. Check out Carle's assist.

Victory Over Victory
If Dutchy hasn't secured his job for next year at the Jets by creating Melbourne's 2nd defeat of the season in Melbourne, I don't know what will.
